GetAway Blitz (Devlog #1) – Building My Top-Down Car Chase Game (Inspired by Midtown Madness & Burnout paradise)

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m super excited to kick off a brand new project and bring you along for the ride.

I’m currently working on a top-down car chase action game targeted for mobile platforms (and maybe Steam later 👀). If you’re into chaotic car chases, cinematic crashes, and arcade-style mayhem—this game is for you!

🎮 What’s the Game About?

At its core, this will be an action-packed top-down driving game, focused on:

  • High-speed chases
  • Evading police and rival vehicles
  • Crashing through obstacles
  • Boosts, drifts, and dramatic slow-motion moments

Think Midtown Madness meets Burnout Paradise, but from a top-down view designed for touchscreen play.

Platform Goals

The main goal is to make this game fun, fast, and mobile-friendly. So far, I’m targeting:

  • Android and iOS
  • Optimized controls for touchscreen
  • Quick, pick-up-and-play mechanics

Depending on how it shapes up and if there’s enough interest, I might explore a Steam release later on—but for now, mobile is the focus.

Inspirations & Vibes

I grew up playing Midtown Madness and later got hooked on the chaos of Burnout Paradise. This game is heavily inspired by:

  • The open-city feel and “any direction goes” freedom of Midtown Madness.
  • The intense, satisfying crashes and fast pace of Burnout.
  • The dynamic police chases and environmental interaction you’d expect in both.

What to Expect From This Devlog Series

I’ll be sharing my journey as I build this game—one blog post at a time. Some things I plan to cover:

  • Designing car physics and controls
  • Creating destructible environments
  • Implementing enemy AI for chases
  • Optimizing for mobile performance
  • Art style evolution and sound design

Whether you’re a fellow indie dev or just curious about the process, I hope these updates give you a behind-the-scenes look at how a game like this comes together.

Current Status

Right now, I’m:

  • Prototyping basic car controls (working on suspension and drift mechanics)
  • Building a simple city block test map
  • Experimenting with AI cars and first-pass pursuit logic

There’s a long road ahead, but things are already starting to feel exciting.

Let’s Go!

Thanks for checking out this first post! I’m really excited about where this project is heading. If you’re into cars, chaos, and arcade thrills, stick around—there’s more coming soon.

Feel free to drop your thoughts or ideas in the comments. I’d love to hear what you think or what you’d love to see in a car chase game.

Stay tuned for Devlog #2, where I’ll break down how I’m building the car physics system from the ground up 🚗💨
